  • Medication Safety and Quality Improvement

    Program Description 

    This course is designed for health care professionals working in the Global HOPE program in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is developed to teach the basic principles of medication safety and quality improvement. Following completion of the modules in this course, participants must complete and pass a final exam. This course is a part of the PHO pharmacy core curriculum.

    Overall Program Objectives 

    1. Describe principles and practice of medication safety in pharmacy practice. 

    2. Recognize quality improvement techniques used in pharmacy practice 

    Course Modules 

    The course is designed with two modules that will be completed in succession prior to final competency evaluation and exam. The modules (and the number of lessons per module) include the following: 

    Module 1: Medication Safety (3 lessons) 

    Module 2: Quality Improvement (3 lessons)

  • MODULE 1. MEDICATION SAFETY

    This Module describes the importance of reporting medication safety events and identify ways to improve medication safety.

  • MODULE 2 . QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

    This Module reviews important principles of quality improvement which can be used in pharmacy practice.

  • Final Examination

    Upon completion of this course, individuals must participate in a written exam. Those successfully achieving a passing score of 80% or higher will be formally recognized for their academic performance. Recognition will be granted after completion of the course assessment.
